Sagrada Familia

I have always been fascinated by the beauty of Antoni Gaudi's Sagrada Familia. My friend just came back from Europe and brought us postcards from the place. Obviously, I chose the one with Sagrada Familia on it. I suddenly remembered the drawing I did when I was still in high school. If I am not mistaken, the class was told to draw any work of Antoni Gaudi. This was when I first learned of Sagrada Familia. The structure was so magnificently built that I was drawn into it. I selected it as the subject of my artwork, even though I did not have the confidence that I would be able to capture the intricate details of the structure. From then on, I have been unconsciously looking forward to the day when I will be standing in front of it.

This is a story about faith.


A man is riding a boat.


The boat falls off a waterfall.


He is able to hang on to a wooden log.


Someone throws a life saver at his direction. He lets go of the wood and goes for the life saver. This scene actually symbolizes faith: the man chooses to put his trust on God (life saver) rather than relying on his own (wood).

It has been a while since the last time I painted (with the exception of Chinese painting) and it felt good. Never did I feel as confident, as delighted, as enthusiastic. Art is my second passion, next to mathematics.

竹报平安

又在开始上国画课了。
我个人是乐在其中。老师不但教画画的基本技术，也讲解画中之意。

竹子是国画里常看到的题材之一。
老师说中国人之所以喜爱画竹子是因为它有平安之意。
据说，古人都用竹子写家信，以转达平安信息，后来才有竹报平安之词。

另外，竹子也代表着虚心以及不屈不挠的精神。
竹竿里面是空的：它有足够的度量去接受他人的批评。这称之谦虚。
竹子长得坚实，不轻易向迎来的挑战认输。这正是不屈不挠的精神。
这两种美德值得我们去学习，相信会跟竹子一样长得“又高又直。”

懷念藝術課

我以前最喜歡上藝術課了。以下是我在中學時的作品。

這是我最喜愛的作品。是用我英文名字字母 J A D E 做成的。

Bedroom in Arles by Vincent van Gogh

当年一組四人。圖分成四塊，我們各自用oil pastel 畫一塊，最後再把各自畫的拼成一塊。去年，我又從新畫了van Gogh 的 Bedroom in Arles，不過這一次我自己畫了整圖。

用了charcoal pencil 和粉筆完成的，使圖看上去像立体的。

除了這些還有别的作品，只可惜老師没還回來，看來是没機會給大家看了，或者説是大家没眼福了，哈哈哈。
